Foundation training is the most important part of training an agility dog! Without a good foundation, your dog will not be able to learn the necessary skills for performing the obstacles and running courses successfully.
Foundation class is where we learn fun tricks that will eventually turn into “real” agility behaviors such as weave poles, jumps, tunnels and contact obstacle behaviors such as the teeter, dog walk and Aframe. It’s a great way to build a fantastic relationship with your dog, and the better relationship, the better your agility skills! This is one of the joys of positive rewards based training. Agility is really just engagement, chasing, impulse control and tricks taken to a whole new level. We will be doing action based games such as chasing and playing with toys, impulse control games that make staying fun, and learning a lot of tricks. Whether you go on to learn more advanced agility skills, just want to build your dog’s confidence, or brush up on manners and tricks in a new way, you’re sure to learn something new in Foundation Agility Class!
What to bring: your dog’s favorite toy, a lot of tasty, treats (suggestions-string cheese, tiny cut up hot dogs, tiny bits of cut up cooked meat, or soft store bought treats that your dog goes CRAZY for), a treat bag that you can wear, and a mat or portable crate to your first class. A clicker is optional. Flat collar or harness and 6′ leash. Please, no pinch or choke chain collars.
